Enraged by Paul’s bold, fearless preaching of Jesus as the Messiah, the unbelieving Jews in Damascus plotted to take his life (Acts 9:23-24). With the aid of fellow Christians (Acts 9:25), who let him down in a basket through a window in the city’s wall, Paul escaped from Damascus and fled to Jerusalem (Acts 9:26). I find it fascinating that none of the people holding the ropes are identified. I am reminded of the countless thousands of people around the world who are faithfully holding the ropes for God’s servants, but will never be identified here on earth. How can we hold the ropes for God’s servants? We can hold the ropes personally, prayerfully, and privately.
