1 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Psalm 40:2-3 says, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”
These verses talk about the change that takes place in a Christian’s life once he is born again. It is interesting to note that one of the most demonstrable areas of our testimony as a Christian is in the “new song” that God gives us. It doesn’t say that God gives us new words only, or new poetry only. He gives us a new song (words put to music). The other interesting thing to note is that it doesn’t say many shall hear it and fear and then trust in the Lord. It says that many shall see it and fear and trust in the Lord.
What is the Christian’s new song all about? What is it that should be distinct about a Christian’s music? In this morning’s service and in the evening services to follow for the next two weeks, Pastor Weigle will be preaching and teaching on music: its used in church, and our need to be discerning as a Christian when it comes to our personal music choices.
