We have studied earlier of those saints that “these all” died in faith. (vs. 13) However, “these all” of verse 39 is much wider. All these saints of OT times, from Abel through until the last believer of this earlier dispensation, had this testimony before God. The world was not a fit for them, nor was it worthy to have them. They lived believing the promise, even though they would not personally see it. It was the promise of a coming Messiah who would bring life and immortality to light through His gospel. It was the promise, not just of future earthly blessing, but also of a life that would never die, a glory that would never fade, a bliss that would never end, and a resurrection splendor. Hallelujah! Worthy is the Lamb!
