Faith is not hereditary; it is not naturally transmitted to children; but God does often graciously permit parents to see the development of faith in their children and grandchildren. Faith in God’s word produces a great blessing; and focusing on this world will produce sorrow. Timothy, a son and grandson, was the product of two women who practiced and taught of true biblical faith. (2 Tim 1:5) Here in our text, we find Isaac reflecting the faith that he had seen in his father Abraham. Isaac blessed his sons “concerning things to come.” Isaac still looked for that bright future promised to the posterity of Abraham his father. In Isaac, and through Jacob, the promise would find its fulfillment. Faith believed that there were good things “to come”, and in that hope Isaac blessed his sons.
