Saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ produces a radical transformation of every aspect of a Christian’s being. Christians are “new creatures,” for whom “the old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (5:17). Believers and unbelievers inhabit two opposing worlds. Christians are in Christ’s kingdom, which is characterized by righteousness, light, and eternal life. Unbelievers are in Satan’s kingdom, characterized by lawlessness, darkness, and spiritual death. The saved and the unsaved have different affections, beliefs, principles, motives, goals, attitudes, and hopes. In short, they view life from opposing perspectives. To be bound together with unbelievers is irrational, inconsistent, and insubordinate.
