It is always interesting when the enemies who oppose you on every front, suddenly want to join with you in your endeavors. Nehemiah experiences this with his constant enemies: Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian. The enemy often has the philosophy, “If you cannot defeat them, join them and strive to defeat them from the inside.” Nehemiah exercises great wisdom and discernment as he keeps his focus on the task God has given him to do. As we look at fathers, may we as fathers exercise the same wisdom and discernment as we continue in the work that God has given to us to do. Nehemiah rejects their offer of compromise because of three convictions: (1) The deceit of the true agenda. (2) The dedication to his true accountability. (3) The disagreement to the true assignment.
