Having sounded a solemn warning concerning the danger of going back in apostasy, the writer of Hebrews would finish this chapter by encouraging and comforting those who were truly in Christ. They were enduring continuing hardship and reproach for the cause of Christ and he would not add to their sorrows or discourage them in any way. Rather the writer chooses to encourage, and fortify them, and commend the watchfulness of those who genuinely looked for the returning Savior. “Call to remembrance” is the exhortation! Although it is not always good to dwell upon the past; because sometimes it is better to forget the things which are behind and press forward, like we find in Philippians 3:13-14. However, at other times there is good reason to remember, to sit still and recall the past. It is always good to remember the splendor of our precious conversion, the schooling from our past conflicts, and the security of future comfort.
