You have heard me say before, “We all need accountability, but we all hate it.” In other words, accountability tells us “no” when we want to do something wrong or unwise. Sometimes that accountability is merely the word of God accompanied by the Spirit of God. However, other times it must involve something more tangible like a spouse, parent, policeman, pastor, or boss. We find in our text today that Titus was sent to lead the church in Corinth, whom the Corinthians knew well and respected, but Paul also sent an unnamed brother whose fame in the things of the gospel had spread through all the churches. Paul had sent him to help with the collection. The inclusion of this highly regarded individual signaled Paul’s intention to handle matters with absolute honesty and integrity. It further deflected any possible criticism that he might misuse the money.
