They “died” in faith. There is a double lesson for us in this word “died.” First, they died in faith, having only the verbal promise but not the actual fulfillment of it. They lived in patience waiting but died not having received the fulfillment of the promise in which they trusted. Secondly, they died in faith, indicating that they persevered to the end, not wavering, not doubting, but trusting until the end of life. They died as they had lived…in faith. So is it true of us today. We live according to faith, and, if the Lord be not come, may we too die with faith as strong as ever in our faithful God.
