This morning I want to compare those who guard the tomb of the Unknown Soldier to us who have been entrusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Tomb Guards describe their service as a privilege and an honor, and are undeniably proud of their service. They are part of an unbroken chain of soldiers dating back to 1926. The ideals surrounding the Tomb have become the Guidepost for their lives, as well as a motivating factor and measuring stick for future endeavors. Although there are many myths about the training and commitment of the guards, it is no secret that these men and women have sacrificed willingly for a cause they believe is very important. “But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.” (2:4) How committed are you with that which you have been entrusted with regarding the gospel?
