Jesus Christ was ordained our high priest forever! “Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec.” (5:6) It is critical that we investigate this thought. The Old Testament priests were sinners, who made intercessions for the sins of the people, but eventually died because of their own sin. Jesus Christ made one sacrifice for the sins of the whole world and sat down at the right hand of God, and “…He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Heb. 7:25) Jesus Christ is not after the order of Levi or Aaron, but after the order of Melchisedec. The unique thing about Melchisadec is he was both priest and king. Jesus Christ carried the authority to rule in righteousness and the qualification to intercede to make peace. Six times in the book of Hebrews, the writer reminds us that Jesus Christ is our high priest forever. This Sunday we will look at the mandate of the Father, the ministry of the Son, and the maturing of the saint.
