Every year when the Israelite would sacrifice a lamb, the next year as they prepared to sacrifice another one, they would conclude that last year’s lamb was not sufficient to satisfy God’s demanded price for sin. “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.” (vs. 7) However, the Old Testament sacrificial system did have its faults. It was an illustration of something to come… a shadow! It was not the real deal. Jesus Christ was the reality of God’s foreordained plan to deal with the sin of the world, once and for all. The promise of God is that He will create a void in the heart of man that can only be filled by the presence of God Himself. We are accepted in the Beloved… therefore, an angel or animal could not accomplish what Jesus Christ accomplished for us. God took One from among us and poured His wrath out upon Him, once for all!
