Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
2 and 3 John
Tuesday: Deuteronomy 30-34
Wednesday: Esther 6-10
When Pilate asked cynically, “What is truth?” He reflected the view of many people today. Postmodernism views the concept of truth with skepticism. Many people believe that there is no such thing as absolute truth or, if there is, that it cannot be known. Certainly, they argue, there is no religious truth; religion is merely a personal preference, like one’s taste in art, music, or literature.
But truth, absolute, divine truth, does exist, and it is the most important reality in the universe. Truth is a precious commodity, more valuable than any earthly riches; once found, it is to be held on to at all costs. The Bible, the Word of truth, majors on the theme of truth. God is the “God of truth,” who abounds in truth and always speaks the truth. Christ is the truth, and as Pastor Weigle stated last night, Jesus is full of truth (John 1:14). God’s truth is eternal, infinite, and amazing. If there were no truth there could be no salvation.
Believers must be committed to the truth, because we exist in the world, which is the backyard and in the control of Satan, the “father of lies.” (John 8:44) He strives to keep sinners from understanding and believing the truth; he is “the god of this world who has blinded the minds of them that would believe so that they might not see the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. Unbelievers, according to our study in 2 Timothy on Sunday mornings, are “men of depraved minds and deprived of the truth,” who “oppose the truth” and “turn away their ears from the truth” because “they exchanged the truth of God for a lie” (Rom 1:19).
John writes that he has no greater joy than to know that his children walk in truth. May we be people, today and every day, that walk in, pursue, and love truth.
