Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
John 7; Luke 18
John 7:6-9
6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus was always conscious of doing the Father’s will no matter the situation or circumstance. This is evident in the first thirteen verses of chapter 7. Chapters 7 and 8 records the smoldering resentment steered toward Jesus in chapters 1-6. It eventually burst into a blazing inferno of hatred. This deep-rooted hatred reminds us of how depraved the human heart can be. It is represented today in the hatred of the liberal left toward our president. As we will read tomorrow, chapter 8 ends with a hate-filled attempt on Jesus’ life. The hatred Jesus faced would reach its peak in chapter 11, when the Jewish authorities made their final decision to kill Him. This hatred culminated in His crucifixion.
As much as Satan believed he had won when Jesus was hanging on a tree, it was the death of Christ that dealt the ultimate death blow to Satan and his forces. The crucifixion was God’s remedy for sin. It made the only way for man to be reconciled back to God. It was the promised crushing blow to Satan. Man’s hatred is often turned into a fulfillment of God’s plans and purposes. Therefore, we must “trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not unto our own understanding…” May we model trust in the Lord even in the midst of the hatred permeating our culture and society. The world hated Christ and it is true they will hate us. May we stand firm and trust the Lord with all our heart.
