Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Psalm 39-41
God disciplines his children when they sin, not because he is unloving but because he does love them. True love is tough love. Real love is that which seeks the highest and best in the one who is loved. How a person reacts to the chastening hand of God reveals much about his or her spiritual condition. Wise and mature is the believer who humbles himself under God’s discipline and restrains his heart and mouth from rash words.
This was the experience of David as he recorded in Psalm 39 his own response to divine discipline. He chose to humble himself and confess his sin rather than react in stubborn pride. We likewise are wise to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God as He confronts us with our sin, selfishness, and senselessness. We all need grace and the only way to get it is to humble ourselves. God still resists the proud, but He giveth grace unto the humble. (James 4:10)
