Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Leviticus 24-25
Key Thought:
There was an article in National Geographic several years ago that provides a penetrating picture of God’s wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their march up a mountain to assess the fires damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched proudly on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s scorched wings. The mother had carried her offspring to the base of a tree and had gathered them under her wings to protect them. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. When the blaze had arrived and the heat had singed her body, the mother had remained steadfast, dying so that those under the cover of her wings would survive.
The psalmist writes, “He shall cover thee with His feathers and under His wings shalt thou trust. His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” (Psalm 91:4). God is described throughout the Bible as compassionate, loving, and merciful. We, as Christians, recognize these amazing attributes in the truth in the salvation provided through Christ. God knows His people need both a sacrifice and a priest. God has given us both. God knows how many reminders man would need to retain an understanding of His presence. God gave the people of Israel a series of feasts to do just that. In the New Testament, we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, God provided the tabernacle. How could anyone fail to see the security found in the shelter of God’s wings?
