Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Exodus 22-24
Key Thought:
God selected key leaders to approach hHm on the mountain for the purpose of formally ratifying the covenant. Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders of Israel were to climb the mountain, but only Moses could draw near to the Lord. The people not only heard the words of the covenant but also voiced a willingness to obey. Once the covenant was affirmed, Moses wrote down the words the Lord had told him. In this sense, Moses was the mediator of the covenant, that is why it is commonly known as the Mosaic Covenant. In Exodus 24:7-8, the people again affirmed their commitment to keep the words of the covenant. Moses then set the people apart for God by sprinkling the blood on them. Without this they could not be clean in God’s sight. Certainly, this pictures exactly what we were speaking about last night. We are justified by the blood of Christ that was shed for the remission of sin. In this act, we see the grace of God being put on display as well as the necessity of the shedding of blood for our salvation. Will we join the people of Israel is committing ourselves to obedience to all that God has revealed?
