Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Genesis 37-39
Key Thought:
Many who read these chapters do not see the grace of God being displayed, but rather focus on the outward circumstances that seem like typical trials of life. However, God sending Joseph to Egypt was His grace in helping Jacob’s family get out of the temptation of Canaan. Joseph, who was an example of personal discipline, shows us the victory that can come from a life of character yielded to Christ. Judah, on the other hand, teaches us of the complicated life that comes from uncontrolled fleshly desire that is not disciplined. Yet, in every situation, we find God’s grace evidenced as He brings beauty out of ashes. How foolish it would be for us to presume upon the grace of God. The sorrow and grief that Judah’s family caused to themselves and the name of Christ is obvious, and it certainly reminds us to live our lives obedient to Christ. However, it would be naive for us to miss the grace of God on display. To think that God would allow His Son to be born from the line of Judah that, included the product of an immoral act of Judah, is nothing short of grace. The fact that God would save a sinful soul like me is nothing short of the grace of God. He forgave all my sin, paid the penalty in full, reconciled me in fellowship with Himself, and has given me eternal life. May we remember today that this is a real-life testimony of His amazing grace.
