Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Psalm 117-118
The most noble motivation behind the believer’s duty in evangelism should be for the promotion of the glory of God. The greatest incentive in missions around the world is that God might have more worshippers of His supreme majesty. This must be the chief force behind the fulfillment of the Great Commission. There must be more voices added to the hallelujah choir of those who worship God. Worship is the ultimate goal of global outreach.
Yet sad to say, the main thrust behind evangelism has often spiraled downward into baser motivations. The are often man centered and carnal, such as reaching people in order to fill empty pews in over-mortgaged church buildings. The drive of witnessing must never be just to add inflated numbers to church growth chart. Rather, the greatest passion fueling evangelism and missions must be the spreading abroad the honor of God’s name.
That fact that more worshippers must be reached who will magnify the unsurpassed name of our God is the message of Psalm 117. It is the shortest psalm but long in truth. If a psalm could be considered a chapter, this song is also the shortest chapter in the Bible. As such, it has been called a mighty midget of a psalm. Nevertheless, this brief song has played in a major role as it contains towering truth on a grand scale. This mini-psalm is bold and its outreach is enormous. More is presented in these few lines than what initially meets the eye. The message is clear: Let all the nations praise God!
