Key Thought:
In chapter 42 we find the fruition of the dream God gave Joseph back in chapter 37… “and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.” (vs. 6) We are very familiar with the story and we certainly can appreciate the lessons that are taught. Maybe the most outstanding lesson is, “be sure your sin will find you out.” We learn that God is in control and He keeps His promises. He is also consistent to “supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:19) One of the promises God gives is that we can be sure our sin will find us out. It isn’t a promise we like to think much about, but it is a promise none the less. It is critical for us to discipline our flesh and mind so that we live yielded to the Spirit of God so we can produce the fruit of the Spirit. Our hearts break when we read how Joseph pleaded with his brethren before being sold into slavery; however, we now know the rest of the story. God was once again about to bring beauty out of ashes. He was going to use this sad situation to save the lives of hundreds and fulfill the promise He made to Abraham. May we learn to believe the promises of God and discern the lies of the Devil, the world, and our flesh.
