Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Ezekiel 26-27
Ezekiel 26:15-18
15 Thus saith the Lord GOD to Tyrus; Shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?
16 Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at thee.
17 And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that waste inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which waste strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to beon all that haunt it!
18 Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at thy departure.
God uses the prophet Ezekiel to communicate judgment against this city for their joy and excitement over the conquering of Judah. The judgment against Tyre will be explained three different ways over the next three chapters in Ezekiel. The amount of attention Ezekiel gives to Tyre shows the importance of this city in Ezekiel’s day.
God does not want people rejoicing over the demise of those who suffer consequences for their actions. I think it is important to remember that none of us really want what we deserve. We all need grace and mercy from God because we stand guilty of sin and therefore deserve to be separated from Him forever in hell. However, in God’s grace and mercy, He has forgiven us and has given to us a position of perfection in His sight as we are robed in the righteousness of His Son! May we look for ways to extend mercy, grace, and forgiveness to others as we remember all that God has forgiven us.
