Proverbs 8:32-36
Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
Key Thought:
After a thorough description of wisdom, Solomon concludes that we must hearken unto the words of wisdom if we are going to be blessed by wisdom. Romans 8:29 is clear that we, as God’s children, are to “be conformed to the image of [God’s] Son…” Adhering to the path of wisdom is how we emulate the person of Jesus Christ. It is through Christ that we obtain favor with God, but “he that believeth not the Son hath not life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36)
Proverbs emphasizes the importance of staying on the path of wisdom and not straying off the path which leads to consequences and destruction. Solomon urges us in chapter 8 to avoid selfishness and worldliness by hearing instruction and being wise. Oh the consequences that are avoided, if we will simply walk in wisdom and seek to emulate the character of Christ.
