Psalm 137-139
Moses cries out in Psalm 90, “So teach us to number our day…” That is really the theme of this great Psalm. Each morning I hear Paul W on WJR remind us to thank God for every day, because every day is a gift.
Every believer should live with a bold confidence in the control of God over our lives. While each of us are responsible for all our choices and must take reasonable steps to protect and be good stewards of our lives, nevertheless, the length of our lives is in God’s hands. God has appointed the number of days we are to live upon the earth. Today is the anniversary date for the homegoing of our dear brother, Bobby Hargrove. God took Brother Bobby to heaven, right on time. Although we miss him, he accomplished the purposes for which God had planned for our dear friend. Every child of God follows a divinely written script that God purposes to accomplish through our lives. Therefore, as the Christian faces daily challenges, many of which are significant, we should move forward with an unwavering, fearless faith that God’s eternal purposes will be brought to pass. Even in the midst of mounting trials, we should trust God to fulfill His plan for our lives. By the way, Bobby would want us to have hearts full of thanksgiving to God on this Thanksgiving Day.
The focus of Psalm 138 is a psalm of praise to God, who has exalted Himself above everything. The Lord had delivered David from threatening enemies, protecting and extending his life. Therefore, David magnifies God for this dramatic rescue. With great confidence, he is certain that God will fulfill His purposes for His life. We know that the will of God for David was to become king and to expand the borders of Israel to fulfill the promise of God for the Israelite people. However, we do not always know exactly everything God is doing in and through our lives for His glory, but we can have this same confidence in God. David expresses absolute trust in the perfect will of God for him. Although the specific occasion of the psalm is really not known, it represents a lifetime of trust that David had in God. Unfortunately, David had many instances in his life in which this psalm could be addressing. If we are honest, there are many things for which we can praise God for today and every day for His blessings in our lives as well.
