Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Psalm 66-68
Praise offered to God must be expressed heartily. Worship is never to be offered with apathy. It should be energetic and fervent in its adoration of God. Psalm 66 demonstrates such dynamic praise. It is a psalm of thanksgiving in which the psalmist, probably the king of Israel, invited all the people to shout with joy to God. He encouraged everyone to declare that God had been with them. He had performed mighty deeds in the midst of their threatening trials, both to chasten them and to rescue them. Through it all, God was faithful to hear their prayers and to answer when they cried to him in the face of an enemy’s threat. No wonder the psalmist called on God’s people to be passionate in their praise of God. What has God done for which you should praise Him today?
It is possible that this deliverance of which the psalmist spoke was from the Assyrians, Israel’s dreadful foe. This is the second psalm in a series of four Psalms that call God’s people to worship him for rescuing them from foreign oppression.
