Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Leviticus 1-3
How do you measure progress? Every generation has its own distinct way of measuring growth and progress. February 6 has been a date infamous for proving this truth in the area of technology and national security. On this day in 1959, the United States successfully test-fired the first Titan intercontinental ballistic missile from Cape Canaveral. This demonstration of progress seemed to show that the world’s safety was now assured through this newfound technology. Twelve years later, on the same date, progress was again shown through two astronauts preparing to head back to earth from the moon after an incredible thirty-three hours on the distant moon. This event gave the United States some assurances that not only is the earth we live on safe and secure, but now the skies above us have the same hope. Progress had prevailed.
By 1985 national security took on a whole new meaning when Australian prime minister Robert Hawke began the process of allowing Americans to monitor MX missile tests from Australian military bases. Progress now allowed the land “down under” to become the first antinuclear nation. The span of time between all three events spanned a little over a quarter of a century, but each represented a step forward. But the problem mankind faces are that we can take steps backward instead of forward.
The study of Leviticus represents a return to truths often neglected and rarely studied. How many Christians have started reading their Bibles, enjoyed their travels through Genesis and Exodus, and come to Leviticus, only to become discouraged and confused. The regulations for the priests seem so detailed. All the talk about blood and sacrifices doesn’t seem to relate to life as a modern believer. May I encourage you to get ready for an exciting ride through a book that will change your perspectives and bring more personal progress than you expected. You are about to learn about the presence of God and His holiness. You will finally understand the role of the sacrifices. The term covenant will take on a new relevance in your life. The offerings that God spoke to Moses about were a means of worship as well as sacrifice for personal forgiveness and restoration with God.
