Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Deuteronomy 12-14
Key Thought:
God in His love did not leave us to figure out His ways by ourselves. He explains His thinking in His Word. One important thing to remember is that man cannot sit down with his own thoughts and come up with a valid approach to God. He will always mess up things.
By definition, if man tries to do anything to gain acceptance by God, he loses everything. God expects man to be the recipient, not the originator. The only thing that makes us acceptable to God is the blood of His Son. Jesus paid it all, not 99 percent of it. Paul wrote, “For by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2;8-9)
We dare not trim stones to make God an altar, for if we do decorate the stones, we ruin everything. We would spend time bringing people to the altar and saying, “Look at those beautiful stones we trimmed!”
We merely need to accept the work that God has done for us in Christ. The object of His restrictions is to help us see how perfect He is and to spend the rest of our lives rendering true worship to Him. Deuteronomy 13:4 “Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear Him, and keep His commandments, and obey His voice, and ye shall serve Him, and cleave unto Him.” We do not serve the Lord to earn acceptance, but rather we serve Him in obedience because we love Him and are thankful.
