Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
2 Samuel 5; 23; Psalm 2, 78
Key Thought:
All unbelievers must give attention to the invitation offered by God in Psalm 2 to accept Christ by faith. A commitment to believe upon God’s Son involves acknowledging that I am a sinner incapable of saving myself. A person must admit that they are a sinner and guilty of punishment. This confession of personal guilt is not a simple “owning up” to sin but a sober admission of the fact that I deserve to spend an eternity in hell. Then, with brokenness and godly sorrow, one must experience a change of direction. No one struts into the kingdom of God with his head held high. “God resist the proud but giveth grace unto the humble” (1 Pet. 5:5).
This honesty must lead a believer to embrace the Son of God by faith, or as verse 12 illustrates, to “kiss the Son” in an act of homage and submission. The person who truly believes must shift his allegiance from self to Christ, submitting to Him as the clear Authority over all.
The Christian life is simply a continuation of this humility. It is a realization that God owns me and has the right to tell me how to think, act, and what to believe. May we live life in humility and true gratitude for a Savior who was willing to save us from sin, self, and hell.
