Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Exodus 9-12
As we study the account of the plagues of Egypt, keep in mind the purposes God was fulfilling through these momentous events. First of all, He was manifesting His power to Pharaoh and his officials and proving to them that He alone is the true and living God. At the same time, the Lord was exposing the futility of the Egyptian religion and the vanity of the many gods they worshiped, including Pharaoh himself. All that God did to Egypt was a reminder to His people that their God was fighting for them and they didn’t have to worry or be afraid.
We must remember as we read the account of the plagues that these happened throughout Egypt, but the little place of Goshen, where the Israelites dwelt, was never affected. Can you imagine fighting the result of these plagues and watching the land of Goshen be plague free? Certainly, it would make a clear statement that these plagues were controlled by a superior authority. What a joy to know that the same God who sent the plagues fights for us today. He is just as much in control today as He was in the days of Moses. May our confidence be in our God as we faithfully trust and serve Him today.
