Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Nehemiah 13; Psalm 50
Saturday: Malachi 1-4
Sunday: Luke 1; Matthew 1
Psalm 50:14-17
14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
In Psalm 50 God exposes those who are simply going through motions in their worship. He makes it very clear that He will not tolerate pretenders. Those who present themselves in worship at church, but then live like the world all week long. Verses 18-20 outline a list of grievances that people were involved in during their private lives, while pretending to worship God in their public lives. God calls on His people to be genuine in their worship!
Psalm 50:21-23
21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
Ecclesiastes 8:11 teaches us that when consequences do not come immediately, the heart of man is set fully to do evil. Man tends to think God is ok and that their sinfulness is not really a big deal. God in Psalm 50 makes the case for judgment. ‘Now consider this, ye that forget God…” God says that when He judges this hypocrisy, “I will tear you in pieces…” However, those who offer genuine praise and truly glorify God, God promises to bless and to deliver. May we be genuine in our worship and not simply go through motions to convince those around us. May we truly desire to praise and glorify the Lord with our lives in public and in private.
