Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule: Proverbs 19-21; Hebrews 1
Devotional Thought:
I want to start with a deep theological truth about the book of Hebrews. This book of the Bible settles a long debated question about leadership in the home. Who should make the coffee in the morning? Well a careful look at the text you find… HE brews. Therefore, men it looks like it is our responsibility to get up and make the coffee and serve it to our wives. There, the issue is settled! All kidding aside, this book is filled with deep rich truths about God and His program that was manifested in His Son, Jesus Christ. The writer starts out by declaring how God has spoken down through the ages through prophets, angels, dreams, and various other means. However, “in these last days” He has chosen to speak to us through His Son. Jesus Christ is the brightness of the glory of God Himself, the expressed image of God, and He manifests those truths through the living Word of God! He confirmed His Deity when he purged our sins on Calvary and sat down on the right hand of God Himself.
Paul explains that all things not only were created by Christ but for Him (Col. 1:16) and that “from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen” (Rom. 11:36). Everything that exists has been created for Jesus Christ. What truth better proves His equality with God? Every foundation of the earth has been laid by the Lord, and the heavens declare the handy work of His power, but verse 11 states, “they shall perish; but Thou [Jesus Christ] remainest…” Though the earth shall wax old and crumble, Christ remains the same. This chapter reminds us of the immutability of Christ along with His eternality. Man is but a speck of dust compared to the majesty and magnitude of Christ. Man is but a dash of time compared to the eternal nature of Christ. Man is but a weakling compared to the power and strength of Christ. Man is ignorant and foolish compared to the knowledge, wisdom, and intelligence of Christ. Oh how we need Christ! We are nothing without Him. We are so privileged to have such a powerful, magnificent, and personal God who grants to us, by His grace, the opportunity to serve Him!
Personal
• Lord, please help me to always have the right perspective of your position. Your power, promises, and person overwhelm me. It amazes me that you are mindful of me.
• Lord, please help me to always be grateful for your program for mankind. You loved me and purged me from my sin and now you sit making intercession for me to my Heavenly Father. Thank you!
• Lord, please help me to always be aware of your unchanging nature. In a world that seems to be constantly changing, it is a security to know that you are God and you change not!
