Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule: Psalm 33-34
Devotional Thought:
Worship is our praising God and magnifying Him in a demonstration of His worth. Our worship is centered on communicating to God what His worth is to me. Worship is always about the person, or in some cases, the object and never about the person who is worshipping. God put into the heart of man the need to worship, and so therefore the question is never will man worship? The question is who or what will he worship? The Psalmist comes right out and states that it is very “comely” (fitting or suitable) for the person walking in obedience to God’s commands to worship God. It is consistent for the faithful Christian to express his gratitude through praise to His God. Worship for the Christian ought not to be haphazard, but rather skillfully pursued. (vs. 3) The word skillfully carries the meaning of diligent or that which seems best. God wants us to demonstrate our worship with excellence. It does not mean perfect; however, our worship should be thought through and pursued with the best that we can do. The phrase, “with a loud noise” teaches us to worship convincing others of our sincere joy in our heart. God, as well as other who may be watching, should be convinced of the joy in our heart as we praise God for His incredible worth. In this chapter, the Psalmist gives to us an example of worshipping God for His word, His works, and His wisdom. First of all, He praises the Lord that His word is true (vs. 4), powerful (vs. 6, 9), and purposeful (vs. 5). Secondly, he praises God for His works. The Psalmist is very careful to praise God that His works are righteous (vs. 5), good (vs. 5), magnificent (vs. 8), personal (vs. 15, 18), and helpful (vs. 19-20). Thirdly, the Psalmist praises God for His wisdom. He states that His wisdom is superior to man’s wisdom (vs. 10), it standeth forever in order for every generation to witness it (vs. 11), and it never makes a poor decision (vs. 5). God always does what is good, right, and best! He is certainly worthy of our praise, adoration, gratitude, and trust. What a mighty God we serve!
