Suggested Bible Reading: Mark 1
Devotional Thought:
Mark 1:15-17 says, “And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.” I am so thankful that, as an 8 year old boy, I repented of my sin and believed the gospel and was given eternal life. Then, just as Jesus called Simeon and Andrew to be a fisher of men, he has called me to do the same. What a privilege to forsake the empty things of this world in order to serve the King of Kings. Too many people are distracted by the things of this world, and not attracted to the things of God. At our salvation, God gave us a new nature. Our appetites should reflect that new nature. As the disciples followed Jesus, they witnessed His miraculous power over the evils of this world. Just in this chapter they watched Jesus have power over disease, sickness, and demons. I am so grateful that as a follower of Jesus Christ, as one of His children, I have the privilege to witness His power over the evils of this world. I have watched Him give healing over sickness, victory over temptation, comfort during grief, power over sin, wisdom in time of need, and spiritual life to the spiritually dead. What a marvelous Savior! “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
Personal Requests:
• Lord, thank you for saving my soul and giving me eternal life.
• Am I distracted by anything in this world? Is there anything more important to me then faithfully following Christ?
• Am I attracted to the things of God? Do I manifest new desires consistent with one who has been gloriously given new life in Christ?
• Lord, help me to pause today and thank you for the many miracles I have watched you perform in my life.
