Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Numbers 32-33
Key Thought:
God clearly commanded the Israelites to drive out the depraved Canaanites with their cultic practices and sensual rituals. The Canaanites were a threat to the pure worship that God has commanded for those who worship Him. The Lord predicted what would happen if they failed to drive out the terrible influences of the land. The pagan Canaanites would surely erode Israel’s spiritual distinctives and ultimately condition them for destruction. We know that when Israel later experienced failure in obeying this command, the Lord allowed them to experience a fate similar to what was supposed to happen to the Canaanites.
Today, we are not commanded to drive out the world, but we are commanded to not be conformed to the world. (Rom. 12:2) Unfortunately, just as Israel disobeyed the Lord regarding Canaan, I am concerned that many Christians are disobedient regarding the world. Are we really the salt and light that God desires for us? Are we distinctly different from their priorities and practices? Do we share the same philosophy of life? Are we as temporal minded? These are questions that each of us must answer for ourselves, but more importantly, we must answer them before God who knows.
