Psalm 134-136
Have you ever really considered what it is to truly worship the Lord? The word worship carries with it the idea of “worth.” We demonstrate how much we value God by the way we worship Him. Worship is not something we do between 11 and 12 o’clock on Sunday morning. Worship is something that should be part of our all day, every day, life. We should demonstrate how much God means to us each moment of every day through the attitudes we portray, the things that we do, and the atmosphere we create.
Psalm 134 teaches us that worship is not a performance before man, but rather a proclamation to God. When we gather to worship corporately in the church, it should simply be a unified chorus of how we have worshipped God all week. Our singing, giving, listening, and responding should be manifested from a heart of thankfulness and a life of faithfulness. The Psalmist declares, “Let all the ministers of the Lord bless the Lord!”
In the Old Testament, the lifting up of hands was a testimony of submission and service. With palms up, the servant of God would humbly offer himself in service to the Lord. This act of humility was to be genuine in the center of corporate worship or in the privacy of one’s own home at night. Worship is not a switch that we turn on when people are watching, but rather it is a way of life that reflects our adoration, admiration, and amazement of our Creator God. Our worship should reflect a right view of God and a proper view of ourselves. The Psalmist declares, “Bless ye the Lord!”
