Pastor’s Bible Reading Schedule:
Ezekiel 5-9
Ezekiel 5:5-9
5 Thus saith the Lord GOD; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.
6 And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.
7 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.
9 And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations.
God is using a vision to explain what He is going to do to Israel for their many abominations. Israel was supposed to be salt and light, an example to the rest of the world of what God had promised to bring to the world through this great nation… the Messiah. The Messiah who would save His people from their sins! (Matt. 1:21) The cutting off of the hair was to picture the humility and mourning that would take place as God judged sin. The scales were a symbol that it was God who was judging in righteousness.
The same nations that had witnessed the sin would now witness the judgment! The Lord would reveal His jealous nature for the hearts of His people who had been given over to idolatry. “Behold I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments…” I cannot think of anything more intimidating or devastating that those words spoken by God. May we live our lives for God. May we allow Him to have preeminence. May we keep our adoration and affection for Him. May we serve our Savior with our whole heart!
