Key Thought:
Abraham Lincoln has been credited with saying, “He has the right to criticize who has the heart to help.” In other words, it is not enough for us to simply point out where another person has failed. Instead, we must be committed to help such a person work through their limitations or failures in order to help them. It takes no character to criticize. Anyone can point out the faults of others. The mark of a great person is helping people see and overcome their failures.
Unfortunately, Zophar had not come to such a place in his life. He did not have the heart to help Job. Therefore, he forfeited the right to criticize him. “People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care” is an old adage. Zophar should have heeded this advice in his dealings with Job. In the same way, we should heed this advice as we seek to help those around us.
